Like you have to be rich (or just have a lot of disposable income, which is a signifier of wealth) to get ONE person here. And now with the most recent "petition to get people out of countries that we're actively exploited program" (namely Haiti, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela and the media's favorite: Ukraine), you need to have at least $20,000 on hand. I'm probably fucked.

Understanding now that how most of the immigration flow is "prove to us that you can work here" and "how much money are you trying to bring in here" not "what would you need to make sure you're okay?" "What kind of support would you require" when it's been SOLELY women and children I've been working on filing out these forms for (which, have gotten 'easier' over the years, for what it's worth) proves again (to me) that this is more about bolstering America's ability to exploit poor immigrants. I can't speak for wealthier ones because I don't personally know any and their process.
