I don't think that's (learned helplessness) the alternative (and it hasn't been that - https://todon.eu/@jalcine/109920149898538200 mentions a book that shows that).

However, I have seen that they're paying people through the DIF (via https://www.cnbc.com/2023/03/13/wall-street-not-taxpayers-will-pay-for-the-svb-and-signature-deposit-relief-plans-.html and ). That might be a good enough answer for most, but it still leaves a lot of open questions for me.
